Warehouse, tote and pallet barcodes to improve efficiency in modern warehousing.

How Barcode Labels for Warehouse Shelves & Totes Improve Efficiency — and How QR & 2D Codes Automate Even More

By WePrintBarcodes.com

Barcode labels turn shelves and totes into a scannable map of your warehouse. The result: faster picking, fewer errors, and real-time traceability. Add QR codes and other 2D barcodes, and every scan can trigger instructions, open records, or validate lots—no typing required.

1) Faster & More Accurate Inventory Management

2) Streamlined Picking & Packing

3) Easier Replenishment & Put-Away

4) Traceability & Audits

Every scan creates a digital breadcrumb. With labeled shelves and totes, you can track movement from receiving to shipping, resolve discrepancies faster, and meet compliance requirements in regulated industries.

Beyond 1D: How QR & 2D Barcodes Unlock Automation

QR Codes (Actionable Links)

Automation Workflow Example

  1. Scan shelf barcode -> WMS confirms location & shows pick list.
  2. Scan tote QR ? opens handling notes or a short how-to video.
  3. At pack, scan a 2D code -> system validates lot/expiry before printing the shipping label.

Zero typing. Just scan, act, and move.

FAQ

Which barcode should I use for shelves?

Most warehouses use Code 128 for location IDs due to density and scanner compatibility. Add a QR code beside it if you want a scannable link to a location page.

Can I print labels that scan from 6–10 feet away?

Yes—use larger x-dimension (bar width), higher contrast, and place labels at consistent eye level. We can size the symbol to match your scanners’ optics.

Do QR/2D codes work with our existing scanners?

Many modern handhelds support 2D out of the box. If yours are 1D-only, consider adding a small number of 2D-capable devices where automation benefits are highest.
